In some countries, more and more people are hiring a personal fitness trainer, rather than playing sports or doing exercise classes. What are the reasons for this? Is this a positive or a negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In contemporary society, people hire dedicated fitness trainers to stay healthy and physically fit instead of relying on sports and outdoor activities. There are multiple reasons behind this trend, and I strongly believe that this is a very positive development as more people focusing on strength training instead of tradational methods of staying fit.
There are various positive reasons behind the ideology of hiring personalized trainer. Firstly, the qualified professional can indentify individual's body type and guide the exercises according to it. He can also formulate a personalized fitness plan for gym activities, which can help in achieving the desired results effectively. For example, if a trainer sets a goal for muscle building in three months, he will tailor the routine and excerices to fulfill this goal. Secondly, people who are extra-cautious or new to gym excercise can benefit from the experience of fitness trainer. Without the knowledge of how to use the equipment, one can injure himself by lifting excessive weight by using wrong techniques.
Acknowledging that other outdoor sports and activities like yoga have multiple health benefits, but in my opinion, the proper strength training and weight lifting under supervision of a professional can result in significant changes to the body. People nowadays are more concerned than ever about their physical health, and hiring a personal trainer who can guide them through the whole fitness journey can prove beneficial towards their long-term fitness targets.
In conclusion, although the benefits of playing sports or going to parks regularly can improve the physical health, the value of the expert opinion and the experience of trained supervisor on a fitness journey cannot be overlooked. If peopel were to keep themselves from any injury during the gym sessions, they would need to hire a professional who can identify their goals and setup a routine which eventually helps in achieving their goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you regard personal training as positive, and you give relevant reasons, including tailored exercise plans and reduced risk of injury. The examples about muscle-building goals and beginners using equipment help support your points. You also acknowledge the benefits of sports and outdoor activities, so both sides of the question are recognised. However, the reasons people are increasingly choosing trainers could be explained more directly—for instance, convenience, individual attention, or measurable progress. The final paragraph largely repeats the safety and goal-setting points rather than extending the argument. This is a relevant, clear response, but some ideas are less fully developed than others; more specific explanation of the trend and a fuller comparison would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph giving reasons, a paragraph acknowledging alternatives and stating your view, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The main ideas are generally grouped appropriately, and the reader can understand your argument. At times, however, the linking feels formulaic, and the third paragraph begins with “Acknowledging that…” but does not form a complete concessive structure with the following clause. The conclusion also repeats points already made instead of drawing them together. To improve cohesion, use a wider range of natural links between claims and explanations, and make each paragraph advance a distinct part of the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “personalized fitness plan,” “muscle building,” “lifting excessive weight,” and “long-term fitness targets.” These expressions make the subject clear, and some choices show an attempt to be precise. However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce accuracy: “tradational,” “indentify,” “excerices,” “peopel,” and “setup” should be corrected, while “ideology of hiring” is not a natural phrase in this context. “Extra-cautious” and “significant changes to the body” are also imprecise or broad. Aim for accurate collocations and avoid using formal-sounding words where a simpler expression is more natural. Careful proofreading would help you use your vocabulary more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative clauses, as in “If a trainer sets a goal…” and “who can guide them through the whole fitness journey.” Most of the meaning remains clear, and the response shows some ability to connect clauses. There are nevertheless some grammatical errors. The opening sentence of the second paragraph has an incomplete construction: “There are various positive reasons behind the ideology of hiring personalized trainer.” The sentence beginning “Acknowledging that…” is also a fragment, and “as more people focusing” needs a finite verb (“are focusing”). Other issues include missing articles and inconsistent singular/plural forms, such as “a professional” and “individual’s body type.” Check that each sentence has a complete main clause, and review articles, agreement, and verb forms.
