Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many people are hiring a personal fitness trainer rather than playing sports or doing exercise classes. There can be various reasons for this trend. I think it is a positive development, as personal trainers can help individuals maintain their physical health.

One of the main reasons people hire a personal fitness trainer is that they will focus on one person at a time. If people have busy schedules, a personal fitness trainer will remind them to do exercises. A trainer can also help them to prepare proper diet plan that includes how much calories should be burnt in one day as per their age. He can also guide with which exercises should be done and do proper allocation of time for each exercise. Moreover, people feel motivated when a personal trainer consistently monitors their progress and updates them on the areas of fitness they are lacking.

I believe this is a positive development as personal trainer will be available on flexible timings and a person can focus on his personal and professional life. He can guide an individual how to perform exercises correctly and reduce the risk of being injured. For example, if there is a beginner, they don't know how to use all equipments so there can be chances of them being injured, but if they have trainer he can guide them personally.

Doing exercises or playing sports regularly also provides benefits to an individual. They can socialise with others, demonstrate teamwork and it will also be cheaper. So hiring a personal trainer will not be the best choice for everyone as it depends on an individual and his financial ability.

In conclusion, people hire personal trainer as they offer flexible schedule, personal guidance. Playing sports and doing regular exercises can also be beneficial. I believe hiring personal trainer leads to positive development as they can focus on a personal individually.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for hiring trainers, including individual attention, reminders, tailored exercise guidance and motivation, and you clearly state that you see this as positive. The explanation of injury prevention is supported with a beginner example, while the final paragraph acknowledges that sports and classes can be cheaper and more social. However, the reasons are developed more fully than the evaluation of whether this trend is positive or negative. The conclusion repeats your view but does not weigh the benefits against the drawbacks you mention, and some points—such as flexible timings—could be explained more precisely. Develop this comparison and support the main claims with a more specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, paragraphs explaining reasons and benefits, a qualification about sports and classes, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help show the relationship between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes list-like, particularly in the second paragraph, where several trainer benefits are added without being grouped or prioritised. Some references are also unclear: “they” in the beginner example could refer to beginners or equipment, and “this” in the conclusion does not identify the development precisely. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its claim, and vary transitions so the organisation feels less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “personal fitness trainer,” “monitors their progress,” “risk of being injured,” and “financial ability.” These phrases show an attempt to discuss fitness and its practical effects. However, several expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “proper allocation of time,” “areas of fitness they are lacking,” and “focus on a personal individually.” Repetition of “personal trainer,” “guide,” and “individual” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, while retaining the clear meaning of your ideas. For example, describe a trainer as tailoring a programme or tracking progress, rather than relying on repeated general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If people have busy schedules” and a contrast introduced by “as.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include missing articles in “prepare proper diet plan” and “if they have trainer,” and agreement or number problems in “personal trainer will be available” when discussing trainers generally. The sentence beginning “For example, if there is a beginner, they don't know” also shifts awkwardly between singular and plural reference. Practise articles, plural forms and consistent pronouns, and check sentence structure when combining examples with explanations. Greater accuracy in these areas would make the response smoother.
