Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and inquiring about a different course. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation for the cancellation is brief, and the request for a new course lacks specific details regarding the type of computer course desired. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the content is quite basic. To improve, you should expand on your reasons and provide more specific information to ensure the administrator can assist you effectively. The response meets the requirements of the task, but the ideas could be more fully developed to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between sentences is often abrupt, and there is a lack of varied linking words to connect ideas smoothly. While the progression of information is clear, the overall flow could be improved by using a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in addition.' The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs more attention to achieve a more natural and professional flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'part-time course,' 'cancel my booking,' and 'schedule.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances where word choice could be more precise. For example, 'do manage with work' is slightly unnatural. To improve, try to incorporate more varied and sophisticated vocabulary related to formal correspondence. You should also be careful with spelling and word formation, as there are minor errors throughout the text. Expanding your range of collocations will help you convey your ideas with greater precision and professionalism.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some attempts at complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses ('this course will be start') and sentence construction ('if there is weekend in morning will be available'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and improper use of commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy and help you achieve a higher band score.
