Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and requesting a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited by frequent errors in expression. For instance, the explanation regarding the course content is slightly repetitive and lacks clarity in its phrasing. While the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met, the overall quality of the communication is hindered by the language errors, which occasionally force the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose in the correspondence. There is a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the phrase 'As a I have enough knowledge'. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the flow of the sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. Despite these issues, the overall progression of the letter is logical and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a coherent response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but shows limited range and frequent spelling errors, such as 'couse', 'enroled', 'provise', 'coverd', 'becuse', 'subjecs', 'resourse', 'thise', 'intresting', and 'responce'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the letter. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'Business Administration' and 'Tourism and Hospitality', the persistent spelling mistakes and occasional word-choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'took an advise' instead of 'took advice') limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for common spelling patterns and mastering basic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'writing this letter to cancelling' (should be 'to cancel'), 'few month ego' (should be 'a few months ago'), and 'When I browse on your college website I get to know' (should be 'When I browsed... I found out about'). These errors are frequent and sometimes impede the flow of reading. While the meaning remains clear, the lack of control over basic verb tenses and prepositions prevents a higher score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and tense consistency is required.
