Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing you this letter regading cancelation of part-time course I registered for.

I recently booked a 4 week computer course with your institute. This course would include basic typing techniques and advance software operation studies. I booked for part-time studies in the evening.

But now I got a job in dispatch sector in trucking in canada. Which includes work-from home but most of my workschedule lie in evening due to the time difference. Due to this reason I would be unable to attend the classes in the evening of this course. So I want to cancle the booking I did.

While I am now interested in advance microsoft excel program which is available in the morning time because my current job include lot of work using excel and other microsoft application I think this course will help me to polish my skills.

I hope you would understand my situation. If it is possible please transfer my initial booking fees to this course. I would be very helpfull to me. I formaly request you to please cancle the previous booking I did. I am attaching the booking recipt copy along with this letter for your refence.

Looking forward for your prompt response.

Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly identify the course booked, explain the reason for cancellation (a new job with evening hours), and inquire about switching to an Excel course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your situation and your request. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between the cancellation and the new request is slightly more fluid, but overall, the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'While', 'Due to this reason', and 'So' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor mechanical errors in referencing and sentence structure. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the progression of ideas from the initial booking to the cancellation and finally the new request is easy to follow. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'part-time course', 'booking', and 'receipt'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'regading', 'cancelation', 'cancle', 'recipt', 'refence', 'formaly') and some awkward phrasing such as 'dispatch sector in trucking'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. Focusing on accurate spelling and more precise collocations will help you achieve a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical slips, such as missing articles ('in dispatch sector'), incorrect preposition usage ('writing you this letter'), and punctuation issues. Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Which includes work-from home but most of my workschedule lie in evening'. Despite these errors, the grammar is functional and does not prevent the reader from understanding your request. Increasing your control over subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your score.
