Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to inform you that I booked a part-time course which is Accounting. This course no longer aligns with my career path and I wish to cancel the booking. I lack interest on the workload, it clashes with my job and personal life.

Firstly I would say the Academic or career alignment is a major problem for me. After taking foundational classes and working on real world projects, I realized my true strength and interest lie in Public Speaking. This aligns better with my long term career goals. While i initially enrolled in Accounting m, my subsequent exposure to Public Speaking has ignited a passion that I want to pursue professionally.

Furthermore, circumstantial Limitations is another reason why I cancelled my booking. After careful evaluation of my current academic workload and my own learning pace, I recognized that I am struggling to meet the intense demands of this course, and a shift to Public Speaking offers a more manageable and productive path forward .

I would want to ask if I can book another course which suits my career trajectory which is Public Speaking.

I look forward to a positive response from you.

Yours faithfully

Tony John.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly identified the course, provided reasons for the cancellation, and requested a transfer to a different course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. However, the development of your ideas is slightly repetitive; you mention the conflict with your career path and workload in both the introduction and the subsequent paragraphs. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, non-overlapping point to maintain a more concise and professional flow.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'Furthermore' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, the paragraphing is somewhat inconsistent, with some sentences appearing as isolated lines. Additionally, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next and that your use of cohesive devices feels more integrated rather than mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'career trajectory', 'foundational classes', and 'circumstantial limitations'. These terms are appropriate for the formal context of the letter. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'I lack interest on the workload' (should be 'in') and 'Accounting m' (a typo). While these errors do not impede communication, they slightly affect the overall precision of your writing. Expanding your use of more sophisticated collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I would want to ask' (a bit wordy; 'I would like to inquire' is more formal) and minor punctuation errors, such as the space before the period in 'forward .'. Additionally, the phrase 'I lack interest on the workload' contains a preposition error. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not interfere with the reader's understanding of your request.
