Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and requesting a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the ideas are developed sufficiently to meet the task requirements. The student maintains a consistent focus on the request throughout the response, ensuring the reader understands the situation clearly. No parts of the prompt were omitted, and the information provided is relevant and logical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Although', and 'That's the reason' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the explanation, the request, and the closing. Overall, the structure supports the message effectively without causing confusion for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student uses relevant terms such as 'part-time course', 'semester', and 'entrance exams'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'get enroll into' instead of 'enroll in' and 'fees difference' instead of 'difference in fees'. While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band. The vocabulary is functional but does not demonstrate a wide range of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'this need to cancel' (should be 'I need to cancel'), 'I am came to know' (should be 'I came to know'), and 'mathematics subject' (should be 'mathematics'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are some issues with sentence fragments and comma usage, such as 'Although, if there is any fees difference...'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication.
