Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding the part-time course I opted last week, I would like to cancel my booking. My name is Guntaj currently in third semester of Bachelor Of Commerce.
I booked Human Resource Management course for the internship, because I believed that it is in a great demand which could be really beneficial for getting jobs.
I would prefer to cancel my booking because I talked with my seniors they told me that it is better to opt for Sales and Marketing rather than HR. They explained me that multinational companies are looking for the students who have experience in the marketing.
I prefer to book Sales and Marketing instead of Human Resource. Due to better job opportunity in this sector. Moreover, this also helps me to work from home in most of the scenario.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon regarding this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Guntaj Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the course booked (Human Resource Management), explain the reason for cancellation (advice from seniors regarding better job prospects in Sales and Marketing), and inquire about switching to a different course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the administrative process, such as asking about any potential refund or transfer fees, which would make the letter feel more authentic and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'because' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words or phrases to connect your reasoning more fluidly. The letter is easy to follow, but the structure lacks the sophisticated cohesion found in higher band responses.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'multinational companies', 'internship', and 'beneficial'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'opted last week' (should be 'enrolled in' or 'booked') and 'in a great demand' (should be 'in great demand'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would elevate the response. The word choice is generally functional but remains somewhat repetitive in its phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I booked Human Resource Management course' (missing an article), 'They explained me' (should be 'explained to me'), and 'in most of the scenario' (should be 'in most scenarios'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as comma splices in the first paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
