You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to inform you about cancellation of my booking for the part time course, which is going to be held at your college.

I booked for an IT course, which I thought would be helpful for my job requirements and improving my skills.

But I was shocked to know that this course is part- time and will not meet the requirements for my upcoming job, as they required another course to be done by their employee's.

I therefore, request you to cancel my previous booking and give me a seat in communication skills course. This will not only help with my CV, but will also improve my communication skills which is the main requirement to be successful in every day life, specifically in businesses.

I am looking forward to a positive response to honour my request and change my course booking from IT to communication skills.

Yours obediently,

Ahmad

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the course is identified, the reason for cancellation is explained, and a request for a different course is made. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding why the IT course no longer meets job requirements is slightly repetitive and could have been more concise. The request for the communication skills course is clear, but the justification for it is a bit generic. Overall, the task is fully addressed, but the depth of the response could be improved to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the explanation and finally the request. Paragraphing is present, though the letter is quite short, which makes the structure feel a bit compressed. Cohesive devices such as 'I therefore' and 'not only... but will also' are used correctly to link ideas. However, the transition between the explanation of the IT course and the request for the new course could be smoother. The use of 'Dear Sir' is appropriate, but the closing 'Yours obediently' is slightly unusual for this context; 'Yours faithfully' would be more standard for a formal letter to an unknown recipient.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some relevant terms like 'booking', 'requirements', and 'communication skills'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'honour my request', which sounds slightly unnatural in this context; 'process my request' or 'accommodate my request' would be better. The phrase 'every day life' should be written as one word ('everyday'). While the range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision of more advanced lexical usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as the unnecessary apostrophe in 'employee's' (should be 'employees') and the comma placement in 'I therefore, request'. Additionally, the sentence 'I booked for an IT course' is slightly awkward; 'I booked an IT course' is more natural. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and punctuation.
