Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and requesting a transfer to a different course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. However, the development of ideas is slightly hindered by repetitive phrasing and some lack of clarity regarding the specific scheduling conflict. While the purpose is clear, the explanation of the error in booking could be more concise. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task effectively, though it lacks the polish required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. There is a clear progression of ideas from the initial notification of cancellation to the request for a transfer. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive (e.g., the frequent use of 'for that'). Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the job and the course schedule could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of the request.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'Mangagment', 'juniour', 'compny', 'enrgy', 'perfct', 'becasue', 'compltely', 'elimnating', 'reciept', and 'maail'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distracting, though they do not impede overall communication. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on accurate spelling and incorporating more precise professional terminology related to course administration and career development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with verb forms ('inform you about cancel'), subject-verb agreement, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and spacing. While the writer attempts complex sentences, these are often marred by errors that require the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning. The control of grammar is inconsistent, and the frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band, despite the overall clarity of the message.
