Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and inquiring about a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal request. The ideas are clearly presented, and the purpose of the letter is immediately evident. However, the explanation for the cancellation could be slightly more refined; for instance, the phrase 'I already grab the full-time opportunity' is slightly awkward and could be more professionally phrased. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the reader is left with a clear understanding of the writer's situation and requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' are used to link sentences and ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the opening and closing salutations are correct. The structure supports the message effectively, ensuring the reader can navigate the request without confusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally sufficient for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at more sophisticated vocabulary, such as 'fundamental' and 'consistency'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice or minor collocation errors, such as 'grab the full-time opportunity' (should be 'accepted a full-time position') and 'wondering to opt the seat' (should be 'interested in enrolling in'). Spelling errors like 'enchance', 'inconvience', 'casued', and 'repsonse' are present, which slightly detracts from the professional tone of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'I am writing the letter in regards for' (should be 'in regard to') and 'I would like to inquiry' (should be 'inquire'). The use of verb tenses is generally consistent, though there are minor slips in phrasing. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall meaning of the letter. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on correcting common prepositional errors and ensuring consistent verb forms.
