Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: identifying the course, explaining the cancellation reason, and requesting a new course. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir/Mam' is slightly informal. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the schedule clash is clear, but the transition to the request for a different course could be more smoothly integrated. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task effectively, providing all necessary information to the administrator in a clear manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical sections, though the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented. The use of cohesive devices is present but occasionally mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'the course'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the purpose of the letter to the explanation and finally the request. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better punctuation to connect related thoughts, which would help the reader follow the argument more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are some spelling errors (e.g., 'Beacause') and minor word choice issues (e.g., 'sort out this problem' is slightly informal). While the student uses some relevant terms like 'schedule' and 'cancellation', the range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise and varied vocabulary, avoiding repetitive phrasing and ensuring that the tone remains consistently formal throughout the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with punctuation and sentence boundaries, such as run-on sentences and missing commas (e.g., 'Its a humble request to you sir could be please book...'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage also show occasional inaccuracies. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical slips to improve accuracy.
