Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this email finds you well. I'm writing this letter to cancel my booking for coming part-time healthcare canadian extend course.
Myself Simran Gill, registration number-[redacted phone], course name -Health Care Canadian Extent- part time ( Winter batch). I want to cancel my booking for this course because I had an car accident two days ago and I had a lower back injury on my lumber spine region. Due to the injury, I'm not able to sit or travel for long time. My family doctor suggested me to do aleast two months bed rest, additionally some rehabilitation.
Moreover, I wish to book the same course but for summer batch because this course is the basic requirement for my physiotherapy license exam. With that, I already paid the fee which was 500$, if its possible can I use this same money for next registration beside paying it again.
I have a humble request to think about it and provide me a effective assistance on it.
Yours faithfully,
Simran Gill.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the course, provided a plausible reason for cancellation (a medical emergency), and inquired about transferring your booking to a future session. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation is slightly more polished; for instance, the request regarding the fee could be phrased more professionally to demonstrate a better grasp of formal business correspondence. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the email to the explanation and finally the request. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented; the second paragraph contains too many distinct points, which makes the structure feel a bit cluttered. To improve, group your personal details and the reason for cancellation in one paragraph, and keep the request for the transfer in a separate, distinct paragraph. This would enhance the overall flow and clarity of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'rehabilitation' and 'registration'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'healthcare canadian extend course' and 'lumber spine region' (which should be 'lumbar'). Additionally, 'provide me a effective assistance' is slightly unnatural. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary and better attention to collocations. Expanding your range of formal business phrases would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I had an car accident' (should be 'a'), 'suggested me to do' (should be 'suggested that I do'), and 'if its possible' (should be 'if it is'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of hyphens and commas. While your meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the writing from being considered highly accurate. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your grammatical control.
