Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request you to cancel my enrollment in the part-time course of pharmacy assistant that will be starting from August 12.
I have enrolled in this course to get my permanent residence in Canada but there is little plan change of my schedule. I got full time job in the teer 3 which will be helpful for me to achieve my goal of residence in the country. Although I want to learn this course but due to certain time restriction and as per the demand of the course that one should be available at campus for the practical's which will affect my new job. So, I have no other option than to quit the course.
I would like to ask if there is any course available in which I can enroll related to health care only which does not demand my physical presence and classes are on weekends, please let me know.
I hope you will understand my situation. I will be waiting for your response.
Yours sincerely,
Alan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and inquiring about alternative options. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, ensuring the reader understands your situation and your request. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific details regarding the course name or your student ID to make the request more professional and realistic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Although' and 'So', to connect ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition'). The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'request you to cancel my enrollment' and 'physical presence' are appropriate for the context. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'learn this course' (should be 'take this course') and 'little plan change' (should be 'a slight change in my plans'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic or professional collocations would help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I got full time job' (missing article 'a'), 'practical's' (incorrect use of apostrophe for plural), and 'in the teer 3' (incorrect capitalization and terminology). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'which will be helpful for me to achieve my goal'. Improving your control over articles and pluralization will significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
