You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you to cancel my part-time course at a college.

At first, I feel so sorry that I have to withdraw my course at a college. I have selected supply chain management program , which is 1 year of certificate course. I found that, I am more interested in technical sector such as, software developer, web site creator and so on. I have also done my schooling in computer science department. This is the only reason I have to step down from that program.

Moreover, I have seen some interesting programs in IT sector in your college. I really want to enroll in software developer program, which is 2 years of degree. I request you to transfer my booking to this program, if you need any further document to register my name, I will happily provide you.

Thank you so much for your time, I look forward to hear good news from your side, and again I am very sorry for this change.

Yours faithfully,

Jaimin Padhiyar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the course you booked (supply chain management), explained your reasons for cancellation (a shift in interest toward IT), and made a clear request to transfer to a different program. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, ensure that you provide slightly more detail in your explanations to fully develop your ideas, as some parts feel a bit brief. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'At first' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is more precise. For example, the transition between your reason for leaving and your request for a new course is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of your letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'withdraw', 'enroll', and 'transfer'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'technical sector' instead of 'technology sector' and 'schooling in computer science department' which is slightly unnatural. While your meaning is always clear, the vocabulary is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and topic-specific terminology related to academic enrollment and career changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I look forward to hear' (should be 'hearing'), '1 year of certificate course' (should be 'a one-year certificate course'), and 'I have to step down from that program' (a bit informal). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some issues with comma usage, particularly after introductory phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and gerund usage after specific phrases.
