You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to cancel my registration for the part-time course in Vedic Astrology.

I visited the website last wednesday and fascinated by all the courses you offer. And in curiosity to learn new subject, I booked for the Vedic Astrology course which is going to start from coming Monday for 3 months.

However, I realized that I have basic knowledge of the same course and the one you are offering is foundation of the subject. I checked the curriculum later, and found out all the chapters in it are well studied by me last year. So, I request to you to cancel the booking and kindly refund the fees to my bank account.

Furthermore, I am interested in learning the computer application program. Please send me the details of it on this email.

Let me know if you require any more information from my side. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Maunil Oza

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the course, provided a logical reason for cancellation, and inquired about an alternative program. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your situation and your request for a refund. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing statements are perfectly aligned with the formal register, as the current structure is functional but could be slightly more polished in its professional delivery.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical progression, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'So' to link your ideas. While the flow is clear, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices; for instance, instead of starting sentences with 'And' or 'So', use more formal connectors like 'Consequently' or 'In addition' to enhance the professional tone of the correspondence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'cancel my registration' and 'curriculum' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'well studied by me' (which sounds unnatural) and 'computer application program' (which is slightly vague). You also have a few minor errors, such as 'wednesday' (which should be capitalized). To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices sound natural in a formal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'fascinated by all the courses' (missing the auxiliary verb 'I was fascinated') and 'in curiosity to learn new subject' (missing an article 'a'). Additionally, 'the one you are offering is foundation of the subject' requires an article before 'foundation'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
