Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and requesting a transfer to a future date. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to an administrator. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. While the reason for cancellation is clear, the request for the new course could be more explicitly linked to the college's administrative process. The response covers all parts of the task well, but the lack of sophisticated development keeps it from reaching the highest bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of the request. Each paragraph has a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition 'moreover' is used, but other linking words are missing or misused, such as the awkward phrasing 'in hospital' at the end of a sentence. The flow between sentences is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from a wider variety of linking phrases to improve the naturalness of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'collage' instead of 'college' and 'enrolled' instead of 'enroll'. Phrases like 'another same course' are unnatural and indicate a limited range of expression. While the meaning is always clear, the student relies on simple vocabulary and struggles with collocations. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology related to administrative requests and proofreading for basic spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the quality of the writing. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I m writing', 'I have a booked', 'will commenced') and missing articles. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. The student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, particularly when discussing future arrangements versus past actions.
