Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Administrator.

I am Vedang Tripathi. I am a resident of Gujarat State, India. I am always pleased with your service from your Edminton, Canada institute. I have applied for kinesiology a part time course for 2026 intake. I am writing this letter to request a modification for part time course selection for current booking for 2027 intake.

To be more specific, due to uncertain medical circumstances of my parents. Meanwhile, in serious illness of parents transportation from my country in this serious scenario is not feasible for me. I will be not able to attend the class in 2026 intake. I kindly request to modify the course intake from 2026 to 2027 for the same course, I have enrolled.

Furthermore, I would like to have suggestions and list of courses available for 2027 intake in physical therapy field. However, for any modification in fees structure for next intake, I am obliged to bear the cost and willingly to accept the terms and condition of the institute.

I will look forward to your response for my request and hope to have future collaboration with your institute. I am honoured to be part of this institute.

Thanks sincerely.

Vedang Tripathi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and inquiring about alternative options. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing salutations are slightly inconsistent with standard conventions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the explanation regarding the medical circumstances is a bit repetitive. To improve, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more concisely in the opening paragraph. Overall, you have successfully communicated your requirements to the administrator, and the letter fulfills the functional requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To be more specific', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the medical situation and the request for a course change could be more fluid. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the explanation, the inquiry, and the conclusion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used more naturally would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'modification', 'feasible', 'circumstances', and 'collaboration'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'uncertain medical circumstances' (which is slightly awkward) and 'willingly to accept' (which should be 'willing to accept'). Additionally, 'Edminton' appears to be a misspelling of 'Edmonton'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you should aim to use more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling of proper nouns to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I will be not able to' (should be 'I will not be able to'), 'in serious illness of parents' (should be 'due to the serious illness of my parents'), and 'I am honoured to be part of this institute' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and phrasing. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct placement of adverbs and prepositions to ensure your sentences are error-free.
