Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
I am writing a letter to you regarding the part-time course that i booked in your GCN college. I would like to cancel this booking. I booked a course in a nursing department. from September batch. I want to cancel because of my working schedule which makes a lot of problem for me to attend the course.
I am working as a psw in a residence none and i work from 7am to 7pm from Monday to Friday, so it is a very nursing schedule for me. Moreover, the course which i choose is also schedule from Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm it is hard for me to manage the time. I would like to booking the different course which i can do on the weekend with no time problem. If you have any other course avaible can you, please send a email to me.
I will look forward for the positive response.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and inquiring about an alternative. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing salutations contain minor errors. The ideas are clear and the purpose of the letter is immediately apparent. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of the conflict is slightly more concise and professional, as the current phrasing is a bit repetitive. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'If', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and sentence structure. For instance, the transition between your work schedule and the course schedule could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated. Improving the variety of linking words would help achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'nursing department' and 'working schedule'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'very nursing schedule' (which is unclear) and 'booking the different course' (should be 'booking a different course'). Some vocabulary is repetitive, and there are minor spelling or usage slips like 'avaible' instead of 'available'. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for professional contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('a email'), verb forms ('I would like to booking'), and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I', 'sir' instead of 'Sir'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
