Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you to cancel my admission in the Dry Needling course which I booked recently for a part-time.

I booked Dry Needling course part-time in your college in order to develop professional skills and learn certain advanced pain relieving techniques for an Orthopedic patients. Additionally, it will take less time, improve my outcome, so I will able to manage my professional clinical work along with study due to suitable classes timing.

After considerable discussion with my colleague, he tole me to join another part-time physiotherapy course instead of Dry Needling, because recent course is quite expensive and less useful. Therefore, It would be better for me to attend Pilates course for a part-time study, as it will allows me to learn a plenty of exercises for reducing weight, improve muscle flexibility and maintain proper posture. Hence, I want to cancel my booking from Dry needling course and want enrolment in the Pilates course.

After attending this course, I will share valuable information and techniques with my colleagues in order to improve their productivity and work-efficiency overtime. Also, Pilates course will enhance my patient-handling skill and encourage me to provide best treatment for relieving their pain and improving their health and well-being.

I hope you consider my request and help me to cancel my current booking and facilitate me to take admission in my desire course. I look forward to your positive response in this matter.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the Dry Needling course, provided a logical reason for the cancellation, and requested a transfer to the Pilates course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a college administrator. The ideas are well-developed, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that you maintain a consistent focus on the administrative request rather than providing excessive detail about the benefits of the new course, which slightly shifts the focus away from the primary task of cancellation and re-enrolment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Therefore', and 'Hence' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, though the transition between the explanation of the cancellation and the benefits of the new course could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the letter maintains a professional flow throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly, such as 'professional skills', 'productivity', and 'work-efficiency'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'cancel my admission in' (should be 'cancel my enrolment in') and 'my desire course' (should be 'desired course'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated terms, some phrasing is slightly unnatural. However, the vocabulary is adequate for the task, and your meaning is never in doubt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I will able to' (missing 'be'), 'he tole me' (spelling error), 'it will allows me' (subject-verb agreement), and 'recent course is' (missing article). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs. The variety of structures is good, but more attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your score.
