Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: identifying the course, explaining the reason for cancellation, and inquiring about alternative options. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the score. While the tone is appropriate for a formal letter, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. To improve, ensure that you expand on your reasons and inquiries to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive response to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, particularly the overuse of 'moreover' to link clauses. Some sentences are run-on, such as the second paragraph, where multiple ideas are joined without proper punctuation or conjunctions. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear sentence boundaries will enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using appropriate terms like 'cancellation', 'enrolled', and 'refund policy'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'take admission to another course' (instead of 'enroll in') and 'held in weekends' (instead of 'on weekends'). Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'i have a recently change' instead of 'a recent change'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations will help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include inconsistent capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'), subject-verb agreement errors ('i will not able to'), and punctuation mistakes, such as the misuse of periods within sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of basic sentence construction and punctuation rules.
