Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: it mentions the specific part-time course booked (political science), explains the need to cancel due to the fee being unaffordable and the four-year duration, and asks about booking a different course (a two-year medical diploma). However, the word count is 140 words, which fails to meet the minimum requirement of 150 words. Furthermore, some ideas are repetitive and lack full development. Because the length requirement is not met and certain points are only minimally expanded, this equates to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The letter lacks proper paragraphing, as it is presented as a single dense block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and often misused, such as 'hows i am not doing' and 'so i am asked'. While there is a basic chronological progression from stating the booking, giving the reason for cancellation, and inquiring about an alternative course, the overall organization is faulty due to the lack of clear sentence boundaries and paragraphs. This performance aligns with Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'collage' instead of 'college', 'employe' instead of 'employed', and 'fee easily to pay'. The student attempts to use some less common words like 'affordable' and 'cooperation', but the overall range is limited and inadequate for precise communication. The lexical errors frequently strain the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences linked poorly together. There are pervasive errors in verb tenses, articles, and sentence structure, such as 'i have booked political science course a part time course', 'political science course is completed four year', and 'How are fee this diploma please to guide me'. Complex structures are attempted but are consistently faulty. These frequent and dense errors significantly impede understanding, matching the descriptors for Band 4.0.
