Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions effectively. You successfully stated which part-time course you booked, which is the data analytics course. You explained why you need to cancel your booking by mentioning a scheduling conflict with your morning shifts and your interest in a newly introduced course, Finance in Management. Finally, you asked about booking a different course by requesting details about its duration and start time. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a college administrator, although the explanation about the course switch is slightly convoluted. Overall, all parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on minor developmental clarity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, following a logical progression from stating the purpose of the letter, explaining the reasons for cancellation and switching courses, to requesting further information. However, there are some cohesion and referencing issues. For instance, the sentence starting with 'However, the last course which I want to cancel...' is grammatically tangled and makes the logical connection between ideas a bit mechanical. Transitional phrases like 'So, now' are slightly informal and repetitive. Paragraph breaks are used appropriately to separate ideas, but referencing within the body paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the organization is clear enough to earn a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific terminology such as 'lead manager', 'data analytics', and 'part-time course'. However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'Fiance' instead of 'Finance', and awkward phrasing like 'for increase my experience' instead of 'to increase my experience'. You also use repetitive expressions when discussing the courses. While the range is minimally sufficient to convey your meaning, these lexical inaccuracies prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. Vocabulary control is consistent with Band 5.5, which rounds to a solid Band 6.0 given that meaning is never truly obscured.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. You successfully construct some complex clauses, such as 'I’m writing to you inform about the cancellation...', though this particular sentence contains an omission ('to inform' instead of 'to inform you'). There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing prepositions and incorrect verb forms, such as 'for last 3 years' instead of 'for the last 3 years', and 'the timing of classes of this course which is not suitable'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the overall communication of your message, placing this response firmly at Band 5.5, rounded to 6.0.
