Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to cancel my booking for a part-time course in personal support worker that I recently booked at St. Clair College for December intake. The duration of this course is six months and 2 months of internship.
However, now I changed my mind and I wanted to withdraw my name. This is because, I am working as a full-time behavior support worker and my company does not allow me to take off for 2 months for internship. Therefore, this will not be a suitable option for me.
Thus, I decided to persue my studies in behavior assistant therapist which is a 4 month course and it will also provides an international certification. The best part is that it is related to my work field and I think it will help me to broaden my skills in this feild to help clients with special needs in a better way. So, could you please assist me with the booking criteria for the upcoming session of this course? Please let me know if you need any further documentation from my side.
Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your kind response.
Yours faithfully,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You have successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You clearly stated which part-time course you booked, mentioning the personal support worker course at St. Clair College for the December intake. You also explained why you need to cancel, noting that your full-time job does not allow you to take two months off for an internship. Finally, you successfully asked about booking a different course, specifically inquiring about the behavior assistant therapist program. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a college administrator, and all your ideas are relevant and well-developed. Your position throughout the letter is clear, and the overall purpose is fully achieved.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter has a clear overall arrangement and logical progression. You start with a standard formal salutation and immediately state your purpose. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different stages of your message, such as the cancellation, the reason, the inquiry about the new course, and the closing remarks. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Therefore', 'Thus', and 'The best part is that' to link your ideas together. While some of these cohesive links are a bit basic or repetitive, the logical flow is easy to follow and meets the criteria for a well-structured formal correspondence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, successfully using terms related to education and employment, such as 'intake', 'internship', 'full-time', and 'documentation'. However, there are a few spelling and word choice errors, such as 'persue' instead of 'pursue', 'assistant therapist' rather than assistant behavioral therapist, and 'feild' instead of 'field'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and precisely enough for the reader to understand your requests without any real difficulty.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your letter. You successfully use subordinate clauses and conjunctions, as seen in sentences like 'I am writing this letter to cancel my booking for a part-time course in personal support worker that I recently booked...' There are some grammatical errors, such as tense shifts ('now I changed my mind and I wanted to withdraw') and minor preposition or article slips ('in behavior assistant therapist'). However, the majority of your sentences are clear, and these errors do not impede communication or cause confusion for the reader.
