Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by stating the booked cooking course, clearly explaining the need to cancel due to a serious stomach infection, and asking about booking a different health care assistance course instead. All bullet points are covered, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. However, the explanation regarding the change of mind in the final paragraph is slightly conversational and touches on reasons like job opportunities rather than focusing purely on the academic or professional transition, which keeps the development at a level where some ideas are slightly less elaborated than others. To move further, every bullet point could be expanded with even more precise contextual detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression from the opening statement to the closing request. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the cancellation reason, and the alternate course inquiry. Cohesive devices and referencing are generally clear, as seen in phrases like 'Moreover' and 'This course', though referencing could sometimes be managed with slightly more variety and flexibility. The overall arrangement is coherent, ensuring the reader follows the writer's intent easily throughout the message.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including appropriate phrases such as 'enrolled in', 'part-time cooking course', and 'job opportunities'. There are several word-choice and spelling errors that reflect the current level, such as 'Westren' instead of Western, 'amout' instead of amount, and 'compare' instead of comparison. Additionally, awkward phrasing like 'get enroll' instead of 'enrolled' shows that while less common vocabulary is attempted, it occasionally suffers from inaccuracy. To reach a higher level, the vocabulary needs greater precision and accurate spellings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am requesting you to cancel my booking as I have a serious stomach infection.' There are some grammar errors present, including incorrect prepositions and verb patterns like 'suggested me to have' instead of 'suggested that I have' or 'advised me to have', and 'I have changes my mind' instead of 'have changed'. Punctuation and articles also have occasional lapses, such as missing an article before 'Health Care Assistance course'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the sentences from being consistently error-free.
