Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this to cancel my part-time business mangement course at Sheridan college. I took admission in this course because it is convenient to handle work and study life.
However, due to the various challenges during transportation, I decided to cancel my enrollment. Although frequency of trains are flexible, buses from railway station to college are few. In fact sometimes I have to stand all the way. Moreover, I got an opportunity for online course in my favourite subject called Electronics Engineering. Therefore, I would like to get defferal from current part-time session.
I would appriciate your suggestions on booking Engineering classes. Please guide me with another course enrollment procedure and refund process from earlier one. Also please give me detailed information of hybrid classes.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please feel free to reach out me for any documentation formalities.
Yours faithfully,
Yash Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You clearly stated which part-time course you booked, mentioning the business management course at Sheridan college. You also explained why you need to cancel your booking by detailing your transportation challenges and your new interest in an online Electronics Engineering course. Furthermore, you asked about booking a different course, including inquiries about hybrid classes, the enrollment procedure, and the refund process. Your ideas are relevant and well-extended, showing a clear purpose throughout the letter, which comfortably places this part of your writing in the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You made good use of paragraphing to separate your opening, the reasons for cancellation, your inquiries about new courses, and your closing remarks. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used reasonably well to connect your ideas, although a few transitional phrases could be managed more flexibly. The overall arrangement is coherent, guiding the reader smoothly from your initial notification of cancellation to your subsequent questions about alternative classes.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'convenient to handle', 'transportation challenges', and 'documentation formalities'. However, there are a few spelling and word-choice inaccuracies, such as misspelling 'management' as 'mangement', 'deferral' as 'defferal', and 'appreciate' as 'appriciate'. Phrases like 'I took admission in this course' and 'get defferal from current part-time session' show some awkwardness in collocation and missing articles. These minor errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a typical profile that requires more precision to reach higher lexical bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
Your writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating structures such as concessive clauses ('Although frequency of trains are flexible...') and relative clauses. You show good control of sentence boundaries and punctuation overall. However, there are some grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Although frequency of trains are flexible' instead of 'is flexible'), missing articles ('an online course', 'the railway station'), and prepositions ('reach out me' instead of 'reach out to me'). These errors persist but rarely impede communication, allowing your message to remain clear and understandable to the reader.
