Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I recently booked a part time french learning course in Conestoga college doon campus which was about to start from 12 decemeber 2026.
Unfortuantely, I need to cancel my booking for this course as my primary school friends have suggested me to join a social media course which is starting this year in waterloo campus. As far my knoweldge and research this course would enhance my social skills ability as I am quiet introvert.
Therefore, I would be grateful if you could cancle my enrolment and arrange refund of course fee. I would also apperciate if you could confirm cancellation by email and let me know whether there are any cancelllation chagres or further procedure that I need to follow.
I appologise for the inconvenience.
Yours faithfully,
Saurav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You successfully identified the part-time course you booked, explained why you needed to cancel it, and asked about booking a different course. However, your response sits at this level because the length requirement is not met, as the letter contains only 139 words and falls short of the 150-word minimum. Furthermore, while the three bullet points are addressed, some ideas are left slightly under-developed, such as the brief mention of your social media course and your reasons for switching.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear letter format, including an appropriate greeting and sign-off. You use paragraphing to separate your main points, which helps guide the reader through the text. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or features slight awkwardness in referencing, such as in the phrase 'As far my knoweldge and research'. To reach a higher band, you could ensure smoother transitions between sentences and ideas, while fully developing each paragraph with more natural progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message about cancelling a course. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'french', 'decemeber', 'Unfortuantely', 'knoweldge', 'cancle', 'apperciate', 'cancelllation', 'chagres', and 'appologise'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict your score due to spelling inaccuracies and occasional awkward collocations like 'social skills ability'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this letter to inform you that...' and 'Therefore, I would be grateful if you could...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing prepositions ('French learning course in Conestoga College Doon campus') and missing articles ('refund of course fee'), but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure your overall meaning.
