Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well,
I am writing this letter to request a cancellation of my part-time program, which I joined last week.
I choose skill trade course in Cnc precise machining. I purchased the hybrid version of this course. I took this part-time course from brampton campus of your college under the booking refrence number: [redacted phone].
At beginning I followed this course for a week which made me realized that this course have allot mathematical concepts. I don't have strong ties to mathematics. I purchased this course due to its high demand without knowning the outline.
After some research I found Personal support worker as an alternate course within my interest and high demand. I also want to ask about the availability of this program in your college. Therefore, I can change my courses within the same college.
I looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requirements: you identify the CNC precision machining course, explain that its mathematical content is unsuitable for you, and ask about switching to a Personal Support Worker course. The booking reference and campus also make the cancellation request specific. Your reason is clear, and the explanation that you enrolled because of demand without checking the outline gives useful context. To make the response more fully developed, state the cancellation request more directly and clarify whether you want to transfer your existing booking or cancel it and make a new one. A brief question about the alternative course’s schedule or enrolment process would also make your request more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible progression: cancellation request, details of the current course and reason, then enquiry about an alternative. This makes the purpose easy to follow, and phrases such as “After some research” help signal the shift to your new preference. The paragraphing, however, does not clearly separate these stages, and some links feel mechanical, particularly “Therefore” before the final request. The opening pleasantry is also separated from the main request by a comma rather than being integrated into a clear sentence. Group the course details and reason together, then use a distinct paragraph for the alternative-course enquiry. More natural transitions and clearer referencing would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use enough topic-specific vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “hybrid version,” “booking reference number,” “mathematical concepts,” and “availability.” There are also attempts at more precise expressions, such as “alternate course” and “high demand,” although some choices are not quite natural in context. “I joined” is less suitable for a course booking than “enrolled in,” while “strong ties to mathematics” does not clearly express your meaning. Spelling errors such as “refrence” and “knowning” are noticeable, as is the inconsistent capitalisation of “CNC” and “Brampton.” More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would improve precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause “which made me realized” and the reason clause “due to its high demand without knowning the outline.” These attempts show some range, but errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction limit accuracy. For example, “I choose” should be “I chose,” “this course have” should be “this course has,” and “I looking forward” needs “I am looking forward.” The sentence beginning “At beginning” also needs an article, and “which made me realized” requires the base form “realise.” Review past-tense narration, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence patterns; these corrections would make your meaning more consistently clear.
