Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to cancel my recent booking for a part- time course at your college.

I have enrolled in a Hair dressing course in your college. Although I chose this program because of its excellent reviews and five star ratings, timing for this program has been changed. Before class timing was in the morning however now the classes will be held in the evening.Unfortunately, I am working at this time. Due to the fact, I want to cancel my booking.

On contrary, I checked your online website and there is an Italian cooking training session andit is a morning batch starting from 26th October. I would like to enrol in this program because of my keen interest and appropriate timing according to my schedule.

Could you please let me know about the tuition fees for this program and if I need any any thing else?

Yours faithfully,

Pawandeep kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requirements clearly: you identify the hairdressing course, explain that its schedule changed to evenings when you are working, and ask about joining the morning Italian cooking course. The reason for cancelling is relevant and easy to understand, while your interest in the alternative course gives the request a suitable context. The letter also uses an appropriate formal opening and closing. To make the response more fully developed, clarify whether you are asking to transfer your booking or make a new booking, and ask directly about availability or the enrolment process as well as fees. These details would make your practical request more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible sequence: cancellation, explanation, alternative course, and a closing enquiry. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main points, and phrases such as “Unfortunately” and “Could you please” guide the reader through the message. However, some links are awkward or unclear. “On contrary” does not express the intended contrast naturally, and “Due to the fact” is followed by an unclear connection to the cancellation. The sentence beginning “I checked your online website” also combines the course information and your request without a smooth transition. Use straightforward links such as “As an alternative” and make the relationship between each point explicit to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the purpose and relevant details, including “cancel my recent booking,” “excellent reviews,” “tuition fees,” and “keen interest.” There are also attempts at more specific course-related language. However, several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “Hair dressing,” “training session” for a course, and “appropriate timing according to my schedule.” “On contrary” is also an unsuitable phrase choice. These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Prefer established collocations such as “hairdressing course,” “Italian cookery course,” and “the morning schedule suits me.” Check spacing and spelling carefully, including “andit” and “any any thing.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentences, including the concession in “Although I chose this program…” and the explanation of the schedule change. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are present. For example, “timing for this program has been changed” needs an article or a more natural plural construction, and “Before class timing was in the morning however now…” needs clearer clause boundaries and punctuation. “Due to the fact, I want to cancel” is not a complete, well-formed connection between the reason and result. There is also an unnecessary repetition in “any any thing else.” Practise joining clauses with accurate punctuation and checking articles and sentence structure.
