Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to request for the cancillation of part-time course that I recently booked at Canadore college on 24th August, and I would like to book an another course.
I have booked Business Management at your college as my previous studies is in this area. The course will start on 28th October and lasts for eight months. I am supposed to attend this course for two days a week namely Moday and Wednesday.
However, I would like to cancel my booking because company where I work currently did not give me permission to take holidays for long-term. In addition, a few days ago, I got promotion as a manager; therefore, I want to give my best at work and It would be difficult for me to manage both responsibilities at the same time.
I would also request for schedules of another courses that will open next year with date, time, and days so that I can select according to my interest. As I have more interest in corporations, please send me details of any course in this field.
I hope that you will understand my situation and I am looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Prabh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly covers all three required points. You identify the booking as Business Management, explain that your employer will not allow extended leave and that your promotion makes balancing work and study difficult, and ask for information about other courses next year. These reasons are relevant and sufficiently explained to make your request clear. The request for course schedules and details in the corporate field also gives the administrator a useful direction. To develop the response further, make the alternative-course enquiry more specific—for example, ask whether a particular course can be booked and what the enrolment process is. Overall, the purpose and tone remain clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: you state your purpose, describe the original course, explain why you must cancel, and then ask about alternatives. Paragraphing supports this progression, while connectors such as “However” and “In addition” help show the relationship between ideas. The closing is appropriate for a formal letter. Some linking is slightly mechanical, and the first paragraph combines the cancellation request with the new-course request before the details are explained. A more focused opening followed by a separate, clearly signposted enquiry would make the progression smoother. The reference to “another courses” also makes the connection to the specific alternatives less precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal cancellation letter, including “promotion,” “responsibilities,” “according to my interest,” and “at your earliest convenience.” The reader can understand your reasons and requests. However, several word choices, collocations, and spelling forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “request for the cancellation,” “book an another course,” “schedules of another courses,” and “corporations” when referring to a field of study. “Cancillation” and “Moday” are also spelling errors. These do not prevent communication, but they limit precision and naturalness. Focus on standard administrative phrases and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because,” a time clause about the course start, and a sentence joined with “therefore.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “my previous studies is” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “company where I work currently did not give me permission” needs an article and a more suitable tense. There are also article and plural-pattern issues in “a another course” and “another courses,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation in “It.” Review agreement, articles, and noun number, and proofread punctuation and capital letters to improve accuracy while retaining your sentence variety.
