Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing with regard to cancellation of my part-time course which I booked recently.
Firstly, I want to tell you about that course which I booked. Basically, I booked a dental billing course in your college, last month. It was a six-month duration course.
I started a remote receptionist job with a dental clinic, that is why I booked dental billing course at your college. Now, I want to cancel it beacuse I have left that job due to its long working hours. Therefore, this course is of no help now.
I want to cancel it and book another course with you in implantology. Because it will help me improve my clinical skills and perform better at my clinic. This will also help me to replace patient's missing teeth with an implant without compromising their individual teeth.
Looking forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Eman.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly covers all three requested points: you identify the dental billing course, explain that you left the receptionist job because of its long hours, and ask to book an implantology course instead. The reason for cancelling is relevant and the explanation of how implantology could help your clinical work adds useful support. The purpose remains clear throughout, and the polite opening and closing suit a formal letter. To make the response more fully developed, specify the action you want the administrator to take—for example, whether they can transfer your booking or whether you must cancel first and make a new booking. A brief question about availability or fees would also make the request more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the cancellation, describe the original course, explain the change in circumstances, and then request a different course. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Therefore” and “Looking forward to your response” make the overall progression easy to follow. However, “Firstly” and “Basically” make the explanation sound somewhat mechanical, and the repeated references to “course” and “cancel” could be managed more smoothly with clearer referencing. The sentence beginning “Because it will help me…” is also separated from the preceding request, which interrupts the flow. Connect the reason directly to the request and use transitions more selectively.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including relevant terms such as “dental billing,” “remote receptionist,” “clinical skills,” and “implantology.” These details make the letter specific, and the meaning remains clear despite some imprecise choices. A few expressions are less natural or suitably formal: “with regard to cancellation” would be more idiomatic as “regarding the cancellation,” while “this course is of no help now” sounds blunt and could be phrased more tactfully. There is also a spelling error in “beacuse.” Aim for more natural collocations and a consistently formal register, particularly when explaining why the original course is no longer suitable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the message is understandable. For example, “I have left that job due to its long working hours” communicates the reason clearly, while the sentence about improving clinical skills adds a further purpose. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. “I booked a dental billing course in your college, last month” has an unnecessary comma and an awkward preposition; “at your college last month” is more accurate. The sentence starting “Because it will help me…” is a fragment and should be joined to the previous sentence. Also, “replace patient's missing teeth” needs a plural possessive or a more general construction, such as “replace patients’ missing teeth.” Review sentence boundaries, articles, and possessives.
