Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to request you regarding cancelling my part-time course which I registered on 12 October 2026.
I am a student of BCA fifth semester at your college.I have booked a part-time course named "french language" at your college. However, after careful consideration I request you to cancel my booking as I need some course that is much aligned with my future career.
As I am always intrested in doing something out of box and eager to explore technologies using different expertise. Therefore, I wisely chose another program that not only help me to better understand my final year subjects, but also will be helpful in my upcoming years. I am particulary intrested in Linux, networking and cloud. Thus, I chose the cybersecurity and operation management couse. This help me to understand topics and practical knowledge more clearly when I move forward in life after completing my graduation.
I would really appreciate, if you could assist me handling this matter.
Moreover, related to refund or payment of additional amount. Please reach out to me.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your sincerely,
Aashima

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requirements: you identify the French course, explain that you want training more relevant to your career, and ask the college to assist with changing your booking. The reason is supported with details about your interest in Linux, networking and cloud computing, and the cybersecurity course you would prefer. This makes your purpose clear and relevant. However, the request to book a different course could be more explicit: “I chose” describes your decision, but does not directly ask the administrator to transfer your booking or explain how to enrol. The refund/payment sentence is also unclear about whether you expect a refund or owe an additional amount. State the action you want the college to take and clarify any payment question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a generally coherent sequence: it introduces the cancellation, gives the reason, names a preferred alternative, and closes with a request for assistance. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and connectors such as “However,” “Therefore” and “Moreover” show relationships between ideas. At times, though, cohesion feels mechanical or the links are unclear. “Therefore” begins a sentence fragment after the preceding sentence, while “Moreover, related to refund or payment of additional amount” does not connect smoothly to the request. The long explanation of your interests also shifts between career goals, course content and future benefits without a clear progression. Use complete sentences and make each paragraph focus on one purpose, especially the cancellation and the specific transfer request.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal college letter, including relevant terms such as “part-time course,” “future career,” “cybersecurity” and “practical knowledge.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “request you regarding cancelling,” “something out of box,” and “assist me handling this matter.” There are also spelling errors in “intrested,” “particulary” and “couse,” which reduce the overall accuracy of the vocabulary. Choose conventional formal phrases and check spelling carefully. For example, “I am writing to request the cancellation of my booking” is clearer and more natural than the opening request phrase.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “a program that not only help me…” and a conditional-style explanation of future benefits. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In “I request you to cancel,” the construction is not well formed; “I would like to request that you cancel” is more accurate. The sentence beginning “Therefore, I wisely chose…” is a fragment because it depends on the previous sentence, and “This help me” has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also missing spaces after full stops and punctuation problems, such as the comma after “appreciate.” Review sentence boundaries, agreement and article use, while retaining your attempts at longer structures.
