Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to request about cancel my current booking of part time course at KPU collage. I would appreciate your assistance in this matter.
To begin with, I recently booked Communication 200 course to complete my requriment to complete my program of associate of arts degree I already completed 18 course's in this term now i have to complete just two more course's.
Furthermore, Yesturday i recived a mail from KPU course regester office that Communication 200 is now out of credit now, in mail they suggest to change the course and they sent lists of course's which I can choose, so thats why i want to cancel my current booking because its not in credit which is not worth it to do.
Finally, I would be grateful if you could drop my current course and give me seat in new course marketing 200 because from my side in portal i am unable to pick that course because section is already full.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requirements clearly: you identify Communication 200, explain that the college has said it is no longer credit-bearing, and request a place on Marketing 200. The reason for cancelling is relevant and the final request is specific, so the administrator can understand what action you want. The letter also uses an appropriate formal opening and closing. To make the response more fully developed, clarify what “out of credit” means and why that makes the course unsuitable for completing your degree requirements. You could also ask whether a place can be reserved or what steps are needed if the section is full. These additions would strengthen the explanation and make the request more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the cancellation, gives the background and reason, then makes a request and closes politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “Finally” signal progression. However, the sequence markers feel somewhat mechanical, and the second paragraph combines several details in a long sentence, making the relationship between your degree requirements and the cancellation less easy to follow. The phrase “in mail” also leaves the reference to the college’s message unclear. Use simpler links and divide the explanation into shorter, logically connected sentences; this would make the progression more natural and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for a formal college request, including “booking,” “course,” “credit,” “section,” and “consideration,” and the intended meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “request about cancel,” “out of credit,” and “give me seat” are not natural expressions in this context. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “collage,” “requriment,” “Yesturday,” and “recived.” Aim for accurate, conventional phrases such as “request the cancellation,” “does not count toward my credits,” and “allocate me a place.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise course-administration language would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “because” and “that,” and the reader can usually follow your purpose. However, control is uneven: the opening construction “I am writing to request about cancel” is grammatically faulty, while “I recently booked Communication 200 course” needs an article. The long sentence beginning “Yesturday i recived a mail” joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries, and “I already completed 18 course's in this term now i have to complete…” also needs clearer punctuation and clause structure. Use shorter sentences, check articles and verb forms, and separate independent clauses with full stops. This would make your varied attempts more accurate and easier to read.
