Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am requesting to writing a letter about I have booked a part- time course at college that is Anatomy crash course. I have already made the payment on 14 th may 2026.
In addition, I would like to cancel my booking because I could not attend this course because I want to change my subject into Nutritional health. Acutally, at that time I have sufficient time to attend both courses however, now I do not have time to attend. Therefore, now it is very important to attend nutritional course.
If you could send the brochure and details of the Nutritional health course. Because of many people are suffering obesity and chronic health issues for my profession if it is added that would be really help ful to my career and patient health.
I would really appreciate, if you could transfer this payment to the different course.
Thank you for your time and assistance, I am waiting for your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Manasa Chindam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you identify the Anatomy crash course, explain that your circumstances have changed, and ask about the Nutritional Health course and transferring your payment. The reason for changing is relevant, and the reference to your profession and patients adds some support. This meets the task well overall. However, the explanation is not fully clear: you say you want to change subjects, then that you previously had time for both courses but no longer do, without explaining why the new course is now the priority. The request for a different course could also be more specific, such as asking about available dates, fees, and whether the transfer is possible. Clarifying these points would make the purpose and supporting details more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a generally sensible order: it introduces the booking, explains the cancellation, asks about the alternative course, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and connectors such as “In addition” and “Therefore” show attempts to link ideas. At times, however, the links are mechanical or the relationship between sentences is unclear. For example, “If you could send the brochure and details…” is followed by a sentence beginning “Because,” which leaves the request and its reason awkwardly connected. The repeated use of “because” in the cancellation paragraph also makes the progression less smooth. Use complete, directly connected sentences and make each paragraph’s purpose clear to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal request, including “cancel my booking,” “transfer this payment,” “profession,” and “chronic health issues.” These choices communicate the main points, and the tone is generally appropriate. There are some inaccurate or awkward expressions, however, such as “Anatomy crash course,” “change my subject into Nutritional health,” and “that would be really help ful.” “Crash course” may suggest an intensive short course rather than the course’s official title, while “change my subject into” is not a natural collocation. There are also spelling and form issues, including “Acutally” and “help ful.” Choose precise course terminology, check spelling, and use natural collocations to make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because” and “however,” and the reader can understand the main message. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence construction and verb patterns. For example, “I am requesting to writing a letter about I have booked” combines incompatible structures; “I am writing to explain that I booked” would be clearer. “Because of many people are suffering…” also uses an incorrect clause pattern, and “I would really appreciate, if…” has an unnecessary comma before the conditional clause. The sentence beginning “If you could send…” is also incomplete as written. Review verb patterns, clause formation, and punctuation, while keeping the useful variety of sentence structures you are attempting.
