Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to request anout cancelling business administration course.

I have applied for Business Administration course. The course duration is eight months, as my father has his own business to know more about that and help him I chose this course.

Unfortunately, I can not continue this course because of its schedule. I am studying Business Management for full time already. Therefore, I do not have enough time to attend inperson classes. And even there are transportation issues in my hometown. Hence, I have made plan to cancel this programe.

However, there is one another course which is almost similar and provides online classes. Online classes would not interefare my full time schedule and also my part time job. The name of that course is Accountnig Fundamentals and Financial Accounts. The main reason to chose this course is I can pay fees in installements.

Thank you for considering my request.

Yours faithfully,

Jaspal Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three required points: you identify the Business Administration course, explain that full-time study, work and transport difficulties prevent attendance, and ask about an online alternative. The reason for cancelling is clear and relevant, and the mention of instalment payments adds useful context. The request to book the alternative, however, is implied rather than stated directly; “there is one another course” does not clearly ask the administrator whether you can transfer or enrol. To strengthen the letter, make that request explicit and provide any details needed to identify your booking, such as when you enrolled. Overall, the purpose and key information are clear, though some ideas could be developed more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible progression: you state your purpose, explain the circumstances, introduce an alternative course, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish the cancellation reasons from the new-course information, and connectors such as “Unfortunately,” “Therefore,” and “However” guide the reader. This gives the response a coherent overall arrangement. Some links are less smooth, though: “And even there are transportation issues” is awkwardly connected to the previous point, while “Hence” repeats the cause-and-result relationship. The alternative-course paragraph also combines its suitability and payment details without clearly framing the actual request. Use fewer, more natural transitions and make the sequence of explanation, alternative, and request explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to a college booking, including “course duration,” “transportation issues,” “online classes,” and “instalments,” so the reader can understand the main message. There is also some attempt to express specific circumstances rather than relying only on basic terms. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “anout,” “programe,” “interefare,” and “Accountnig.” Several phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “one another course,” “attend inperson classes,” and “I can pay fees in installements.” These reduce the accuracy and naturalness of the letter. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for enrolment, attendance, and payment; for example, “enrol in an alternative course” is clearer than “there is one another course.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a result introduced by “Therefore.” The main message remains understandable, but errors occur in sentence construction, articles, and verb patterns. For example, “request anout cancelling business administration course” needs a clearer structure, such as “request the cancellation of my Business Administration course.” In “as my father has his own business to know more about that,” the relationship between the clauses is unclear; separate the ideas or use a purpose clause accurately. “I do not have enough time to attend inperson classes” also needs the grammatical pattern “attend in-person classes.” Aim for complete, well-formed sentences and check articles and clause connections before sending.
