Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to cancel my booking of part-time course at your college.

The course I booked was related to buisness field and the name of course is Associate of buisness studies.

I would like to cancel my booking, as buisness studies is very tough course and it requires lot of time, I would be not able to give proper time to this course. It is also very expensive course, I do not have that much funds in my account to pay.

I have enquiery about Health care assistant course, I would like to work in health care field, as their pay rate is good, and they also provide number of health benifits like, dental care, family doctor, and paid sick leaves. Can you please provide me full detail of this course including fees, Total course duration, and requirements.

I hope you got this email and I will wait for your response.

Your Sincerely,

Sanam.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requirements: you identify the Associate of Business Studies course, explain that its workload and cost make it unsuitable, and ask about the Health Care Assistant course. The reasons are relevant and the request for fees, duration and entry requirements gives the administrator a clear next step. Your purpose remains clear throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed and precise, explain briefly why the alternative course better fits your circumstances, rather than relying mainly on its pay and benefits. Also, the task specifies a college administrator, so use the requested opening, “Dear Sir or Madam,” and close in a suitably formal way. These refinements would make the letter more complete and consistently appropriate to its purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible sequence: cancellation purpose, course details and reasons, then an enquiry about an alternative. Separate paragraphs help the reader distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “as” and “I would like” connect the ideas. This gives the response a coherent overall arrangement. However, some linking is mechanical, and the long sentence listing the alternative course’s benefits and requested details contains several ideas without clear punctuation. The closing, “I hope you got this email,” also shifts from the letter’s formal context. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more purposeful transitions, and keep the tone consistent from greeting to sign-off, to make cohesion more flexible and polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “cancel my booking,” “course duration,” “requirements” and “health benefits.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable: “buisness,” “enquiery” and “benifits” recur or affect key terms, while “give proper time” and “full detail” are not natural collocations in this context. “Pay rate is good” is understandable but informal and imprecise for a college enquiry. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit accuracy and range. Check spelling carefully and learn common formal phrases such as “devote sufficient time,” “provide further details” and “employment prospects.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “I would like to cancel my booking, as…” and the request beginning “Can you please provide me…”. The main message is generally understandable, but errors in articles, sentence construction and punctuation are frequent enough to limit control. Examples include “part-time course” without an article, “is very tough course,” “requires lot of time,” and “I would be not able to give.” The long sentence beginning “I have enquiery” also joins several clauses with commas, making its structure difficult to follow. Practise article use and modal constructions (“I would not be able to…”), and divide lists and connected ideas into correctly punctuated sentences.
