Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary era, it has been observed that consumerism is highly increased in fashion industry. Some people believe that it is good to buy expensive clothes even if you buy some of them. However, some proponents think that they should buy more clothes but in cheaper range. If questioned I strongly agree with this statement. My preference will be justified in the upcoming paragraphs with valid reasons and appropriate examples.

Scrutinising the facts from the grassroots level, the foremost one is that luxurious clothes are very comfortable and breathable. They are made up with nice and fine fabrics. For instance, Allen solly brand offers a lot of maternity suits, and kid's clothes. Those are expensive but made up from organic cotton. On top of that, the expensive clothes will last longer and looks good. Moreover, costly clothes are symbol of status sometimes. Additionally, it will reduce occurance of the fungal diseases, which is more likely to seen with rough quality clothes.

Some people believe in the quality over quantity. They think their one time investment is worthwhile because of it's quality. For example, If you buy Canada Goose jacket, it will actually save you from extreme cold conditions. On the other hand, cheap jackets are not able to do that.

Nevertheless, a few pople are thinking that it is good to have a lot more clothes. They are ready to compromise with the quality. They just care about numbers of clothes. They want be in trend always, some people do not like repetation of the clothes.

Based on the aforementioned reasoning, I still stand by stance. In my opinion fabric quality matters a lot. It is not about showing off but it's totally about comfort. There are divided opinions about that and I guess that's personal choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you strongly favour buying fewer, more expensive clothes, and you give relevant reasons such as comfort, durability, warmth and fabric quality. The examples of organic-cotton clothing and a Canada Goose jacket help connect your argument to real products. You also acknowledge the opposing view that some people prefer variety and following trends, so the task is addressed from both sides. To make the response more fully developed, explain the reasons behind your claims—for example, how longer-lasting clothes may offer better value over time. The point about fungal diseases is asserted without support, and the status argument is not clearly linked to your main case. A more consistent explanation of these ideas would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a paragraph on the opposing view and a conclusion. The progression from your reasons to the counterargument is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “For instance” and “Nevertheless” signal relationships between ideas. However, some linking language feels mechanical or does not accurately describe the point that follows; “Scrutinising the facts from the grassroots level” is an elaborate opening for a paragraph that mainly lists benefits. The second supporting paragraph is brief, and the final paragraph introduces “personal choice,” which slightly weakens the force of your stated position. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “consumerism,” “organic cotton,” “quality over quantity,” “extreme cold conditions” and “compromise.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and some less common expressions show an effort to vary your language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “consumerism is highly increased,” “made up with nice and fine fabrics,” and “numbers of clothes.” There are also spelling errors, including “occurance,” “pople” and “repetation.” Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. Replacing vague expressions such as “nice and fine” with specific descriptions would make your argument more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional opening (“If questioned…”) and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur and reduce accuracy. For example, “the expensive clothes will last longer and looks good” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “clothes are symbol of status” needs an article. In “because of it's quality,” the possessive form is incorrect, and “they want be in trend” is missing “to.” Punctuation also needs attention, particularly the missing space after the full stop in “conditions.On.” Review agreement, articles and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence while retaining your attempts at varied structures.
