Student answer (Band 7.0)
Buying some high-priced outfits is beneficial instead of many affordable clothes. This is because change in lifestyle has taken mammoth dimensions. I agree to the standpoint and will discuss my viewpoints.
Many wonderful facets are associated with the trend of buying expensive clothes. The dominant reason is, costly apparels have a rich and classy look. To expound, since they are designed by the well-known designers, which have significant years of work experience and profound knowledge of latest fashion trends. As a result, outfits are tailored to fit and give a stylish look. To exemplify, an experiment was conducted by the National Institute of Fashion and Technology, in India. Results showed people who bought branded expensive clothes received significantly more complements as compared to those who opted for cheaper attires. Furthermore, expensive apparels are durable. To elaborate, since they are built with high precision and quality, they are less prone to wear-and-tear. Additionally, they do not loose their color after few washes. Therefore, they last longer. Hence, the above points illustrate why it is better to buy fewer expensive clothes.
Despite the above mentioned reasons, there are some people who think that it is better to buy lot of cheaper clothes. They have their viewpoint. The contributing factor is, they believe that they can get a variety of styles by spending the similar amount of money. This means, since for the price of a expensive shirt two cheaper shirts can be bought, which is why they choose to buy affordable clothes. Consequently, they end up buying more designs of clothes. Nevertheless, I still believe it is better to buy few costly apparels.
To recapitulate, this essay has discussed the plausible reasons such as opting for latest trend and durable clothes for buying few high-priced clothes. I reiterate that buying less quantity expensive clothes is fruitful.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding quality, durability, and aesthetics are relevant and well-supported. The inclusion of an example, while slightly generic, helps to develop the main argument. The counter-argument is acknowledged, which adds balance to the discussion. To reach a higher band, the development of ideas could be more nuanced; for instance, discussing the environmental impact of 'fast fashion' versus 'slow fashion' would provide more depth. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main arguments from the counter-argument. Cohesive devices such as 'The dominant reason is', 'To expound', 'Furthermore', and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader through the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother in places. For example, the phrase 'They have their viewpoint' is a bit abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'apparels', 'profound knowledge', and 'tailored'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'loose their color' (should be 'lose') and 'give a stylish look' (which is acceptable but could be more precise). The use of 'mammoth dimensions' is slightly unnatural in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding the range of collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'since they are designed by the well-known designers, which have...' (a fragment/relative clause error) and 'buying lot of cheaper clothes' (missing article). Punctuation is generally functional, though some comma usage is inconsistent. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses to ensure more complex sentences are error-free.
