Student answer (Band 6.5)

Everyday, people do different things to survive and clothes are our daily need. It is not only cover our body but also help us to survive from various type of weather. Nowadays, mortals perceive that 3 to 4 but expensive clothes are enough rather than buying cheap quality fabric. However, I strongly oppose this point and I would prove this in upcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, our earth ecosystem is not same in every part of the world. Northern part always stays into cold layer and desert region faces heatwaves everyday. By looking to this, from stone age, mortals tried several ways to cover their body to bare these kind of situations. With time, intelligence upgraded and mortal invented different kind of fabric to make clothes and set prices of fabric according to their production and labor cost. But people started thinking that why we should purchase more clothes if we can survive every weather condition with some expensive clothes. But in reality, it is not true. people need different fiber for alter weather condition. It is not possible that you can survive an negative 10 degree in one shirt, if you are ordinary human.

Secondly, it does not matter that weather you clothes are expensive or cheap but the way they are designed also matters. To cite an example, in offices, formal clothes are more likely to seen than fancy clothes. Sportsman do not wear Gucci while playing. With clothes, place also matter. First expression is our last expression and it is widely observed into many job interviews that HR first see how candidate is dressed.

Going to conclusion, I am strongly disagree with the statement. Few expensive clothes are not enough to survive entire life and also you can not wear same clothes everyday and at same places. Cheaper textile is effective as you have options to change you costumes according to situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the statement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat weak. The argument relies on the necessity of having different clothes for different weather and social situations, but the connection between 'expensive' and 'quality/utility' is not fully explored. The reasoning regarding 'expensive' clothes being unable to handle weather conditions is slightly illogical, as high-quality, expensive clothing is often designed specifically for extreme weather. The ideas are relevant but could be more deeply supported with clearer examples to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'By looking to this' or 'Going to conclusion'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple transition markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'mortals perceive' instead of 'people believe', and 'alter weather condition' instead of 'varying weather conditions'. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but the student struggles with collocations and idiomatic usage. To improve, the student should focus on using more academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct context to avoid confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('clothes are our daily need'), article usage ('into cold layer'), and word order. Some sentences are grammatically incorrect to the point where they slightly impede the reader's understanding, such as 'It is not only cover our body but also help us'. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the score from being higher.
