Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is believed that buying expensive attires is a good ideas instead of spending on number of cheaper clothes. I think it is better to buy expensive clothes more often because of two reasons, but excessive spendings sometimes effect on their budget.
One major reason of buying expensive clothes is because of their quality and long-wearing. By spending large amount of money on expensive clothes, some people get an assurance of many times of wearing for long time because of the good quality of stuff rather than quantity. This spending helps them to save their money than devoting their money again and again to buy clothes, allowing them to always focus on quality.
Showing status and unique style in front of others is the other main reason of buying branded clothes. When some people, especially the rich and professionals spend their large amount of money on branded clothes, then they feel more confident and stylish among public, because most of the time cheaper clothes are in similar style and design. This different style of apparels and brand name on their clothes, leading to provide them a standard lifestyle in this present time.
However, If some people spend an excessive amount of money on such expensive clothes just to show off in front of others or because of peer pressure, then it may be effect on their budget and sometimes they don not think about their fundamental necessities. Spending money excessively on clothes make them spendthrift.
To sum up, while purchasing branded clothes brings benefits for the people to provide them long wearing time and quality of stuff, they should always spend their money on clothes based on their budget rather than just to show off because of peer pressure.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position that balances the benefits of quality with the risks of overspending. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the points regarding durability and social status. However, the development is slightly uneven; the discussion on 'peer pressure' in the third and fourth paragraphs could have been more tightly integrated to strengthen the argument. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and maintains the position throughout. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as quality or social status. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One major reason', 'the other main reason', and 'However', which help guide the reader. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing (e.g., 'their' in the first paragraph) is occasionally ambiguous. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'spendthrift' and 'fundamental necessities', which is positive. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'buying expensive attires' (attire is usually uncountable) and 'long-wearing' (which is not the standard term for durability). Despite these minor errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the range is sufficient to discuss the topic effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('it may be effect on their budget' should be 'it may affect their budget') and article usage errors ('a number of' vs 'number of'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly clunky. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate that the writer has not yet achieved full control over more complex grammatical structures.
