Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely believed that buying few expensive clothes better than buying lots of cheaper clothes. I largely agree with this viewpoint as it saves money and gives long life of clothing which makes this view particularly convincing.

The foremost reason for my position is that purchasing good quality clothing is one time purchase. This is primarily because people do not need to buy garments every season they can use old good quality wears.

A good illustration of this can be seen in individuals picking up three hundred dollars jacket, and using it for five years. On the other side some people buying hundred dollars jacket every season.

In other words, good quality clothes have longer life than cheap clothes.

Another compelling argument is that it helps to keep our wardrobe clean and spacious. This is primarily because having so many cheap and low quality clothes make closet space full and messy.

A clear example of this is that less number of clothes easy to organize.

Furthermore, it makes easy to choose while going somewhere because it is easy select in twenty dresses than fifty dresses.

In addition, expensive clothes made up of premium threads that does not cause any allergy and rashes to skin. This is another positive aspect of high quality clothes towards skin.

In conclusion, I remain firmly convinced that people should utilize their money on few expensive clothes than lots of cheaper garments. This is because saving money and keeping long life clothes both of which can have a significant impact on people's life. I believe that quality outweigh quantity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial savings, wardrobe management, and health benefits. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'premium threads' is introduced but not fully explained in terms of why this is a significant factor compared to the economic argument. While the response covers all parts of the task, the supporting examples, such as the comparison between twenty and fifty dresses, are a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more sophisticated reasoning and detailed examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The foremost reason', 'Another compelling argument', and 'In addition', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the flow feel slightly disjointed at times. For example, the transition between the discussion of wardrobe space and the choice of clothing could be more fluid. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'wardrobe', 'spacious', and 'premium threads'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or minor errors, such as 'long life of clothing' instead of 'durability' or 'long-lasting clothing'. The repetition of basic words like 'good' and 'easy' suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms to demonstrate more flexibility. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and varied vocabulary to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('picking up three hundred dollars jacket'), subject-verb agreement issues ('expensive clothes made up of premium threads that does not cause'), and awkward sentence construction ('it makes easy to choose'). These errors do not typically impede communication, but they are noticeable. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles, prepositions, and consistent verb forms, while also attempting more complex, error-free sentence structures.
