Student answer (Band 7.0)
2) I am believe that it is better to buy a few expensive clothes reither than many cheap ones. I agree with this statement becaus expensive clothes usculy last longe and are of better quality.
Firstly, expensive clothes are made from better materials so they do not get damaged easily. They can be uses for many years, which helps people to save money in the long term. For example a good quality pair of jeans may last for several years and your while a cheap pair may lose their colour, size and shape after a few washes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding durability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact are relevant and logically developed. While the ideas are well-supported with examples, such as the comparison between jeans, the development could be slightly more sophisticated to reach higher bands. The inclusion of a counter-argument regarding affordability demonstrates a balanced perspective, which is a positive feature of the essay. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally clear, some transitions between sentences are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the referencing could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The progression of ideas is logical, and the overall structure supports the development of the argument effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'environmentally friendly' (implied) and 'quality over quantity'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'usculy', 'environmentcel', 'wastl', 'clothers') and some minor word-choice inaccuracies. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A wider range of less common lexical items would be beneficial to demonstrate more precision and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('I am believe', 'it is creates'), article usage, and sentence fragments. While the meaning remains clear despite these errors, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. The student attempts to use complex sentences, but these often contain errors that affect the fluency of the writing. Improving control over basic grammatical structures and punctuation would significantly enhance the quality of the response.
