Student answer (Band 7.0)
In order to build your wardrobe and emanate your fashion sense, some people advise that purchasing only a handful of luxury attires is better as compared to spending on a large quantity of lower priced outfits. In my opinion, it is a good practice to buy a mix of both type of expensive and cheap clothes.
Collecting on a few selected pieces of high-end clothing items is a smart move which will make you stand out from the ordinary crowd, making you more confident than ever before. It is a thoughtful investment that one can make to upgrade one's life as it counts as dressing with purpose and intention. Since people always judge you from the first impression you leave, owning such statement pieces will get you ahead in every aspect of life.
On the other hand, if you only ever own expensive clothes, you won't be able to experiment with various styling options to find a perfect fit with your personality. It is most often advisable to curate numerous styling choices that cater to all types of events, giving you some room to explore your own persona. Moreover, you would not need to spend a hefty amount before settling on a styling preference.
In conclusion, purchasing both expensive and cheap clothes is always necessary to leave a lasting impression in every room you walk in. It is the mindful dressing that will give you an edge as well as give you upgrade you require for leading a meaningful life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a balanced position. You clearly state your opinion in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that expensive clothes provide 'confidence' and 'first impressions', and that cheaper clothes allow for 'experimentation', these points could be expanded with more concrete examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The essay is just at the minimum word count, which limits the depth of your arguments. To improve, try to provide a specific scenario or a more detailed explanation of why a mix of both is more practical than choosing one extreme.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument. To move to a higher band, you should aim for more sophisticated transitions and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. Currently, the flow is functional but occasionally feels a bit mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'emanate', 'curate', 'hefty amount', and 'statement pieces'. These choices are generally accurate and appropriate for the context. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions. For example, instead of 'good practice', you could use 'a more pragmatic approach'. Your word choice is generally natural, though some phrases could be more varied.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Since people always judge you from the first impression you leave, owning such statement pieces will get you ahead'. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'both type of expensive and cheap clothes' (should be 'both types of') and 'give you upgrade you require' (missing an article). However, these errors do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement.
