Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, there are number of brands with their own identity and specialty. Moreover, there is a craze of buying brand products, especially in youth. This essay will describe whether buying a few expensive clothes is good rather than plenty of cheap clothes.

Firstly, buying a few expensive clothes once in a while can be considered good. As in this one do not have to spend again and again. Although, branded clothes stays longer and can be wore for number of times. No doubt, these are expensive but these are worth it too. Some people buy it for fashion and follows trends, while other buy it for their need, so that they do not have to go again and again to market and spend time in finding clothes. For example, buying an expensive and good quality jacket can be use for all winters even couple of years. Some people like to keep their clothes from years, if those are still in good condition.

Moving further, sometimes spending lot of money on few clothes does not prove much beneficial. As trends of outfits are keeps on changing. And if people will spend money on a few expensive clothes then they are not able to make their outfits according to the fashion going on. For instance, there was trend of tight jeans at one time but now the fashion is of loose jeans or pants. Sometimes, keeping old fashion clothes shows outdated personality. The amount of money an individual puts on a few expensive clothes, the double number of cheap clothes can be bought in same amount, also with lots of variety. Moreover, a lot of money can be saved.

In conclusion, this can be clearly seen that spending money on a few expensive clothes is way better than having lot of cheap clothes. As, cheap clothes are not long lasting, also the quality will be bad. And one has to spend money again and again on it. Thus, this is agreed that it's better to have a few number of costly clothes than inexpensive .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided reasons for both sides of the argument, which is good practice. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the second paragraph presents a counter-argument regarding fashion trends, but the conclusion contradicts this by stating that expensive clothes are 'way better' without fully reconciling the earlier point about trends. To improve, ensure your supporting arguments are more thoroughly explained and that your conclusion logically follows the points raised in the body paragraphs. Overall, the response is relevant and covers all parts of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moving further', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'As in this one do not have to spend' or 'As trends of outfits are keeps on changing'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth flow due to grammatical issues. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context will help your writing feel more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to express your ideas, including terms like 'identity', 'specialty', and 'outdated personality'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'buying an expensive and good quality jacket can be use' (should be 'used') and 'plenty of cheap clothes' (which is acceptable but could be more precise). Some collocations are also slightly unnatural, such as 'make their outfits according to the fashion'. Expanding your range to include more precise academic collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('branded clothes stays longer'), incorrect verb forms ('can be wore'), and missing articles or pluralization errors ('there are number of brands'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
