Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is better to purchase just a few expensive clothes, rather than lots of cheaper ones. I agree with this view due to the social benefits attached to the purchase of high-quality clothes such as attraction as well as respect in every gathering. This essay will explain the advantages that comes with buying expensive clothes.
First and foremost, one of the major importance of high-quality clothing is the ability to draw attraction. People trend to be attracted to expensive clothes because of the uniqueness, choice of material used for the production as well as the appearance it gives the individual wearing it. Moreover, the fabrics used in manufacturing expensive clothes also contributes to its different and elegant result sparking attraction in public spaces. For instance, most celebrities prefer to wear expensive clothes from well known brands like Nike, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana with the sole aim of drawing attention through the cloth attractiveness in Public. Therefore, wearing expensive clothes increases attraction.
Furthermore, owning some high-quality clothes attracts respect or regards in every public space. When people wear expensive clothes to special occasions, the audience believes that they possess good value and qualities so they tend to be respected more. In addition, expensive clothes attracts preferential treatments in gathering like offering the individual a VIP space at the front or attending to their request before the rest. People who prioritize expensive clothes usually enjoy random benefits in multiple situations they find themselves. A typical example, senators in Nigeria senate chamber usually prefer high-quality senate wears over any other clothing because of the respect it commands when they appear at joint-sittings.
In conclusion, advantages such as attractiveness as well as the benefits and respect attached to Purchasing a few expensive clothes makes it preferrable than buying lots of cheaper clothes which does not add any value to people who wear it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on social benefits like attraction and respect. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments rely heavily on generalisations rather than exploring the practical or economic aspects of the topic (e.g., durability or cost-per-wear). While the examples provided, such as the mention of Nigerian senators, are relevant, the essay would benefit from a more balanced perspective or a deeper exploration of why 'few' is better than 'lots' beyond just social status. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic sentence, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition in the phrasing of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece. The structure is sufficient to guide the reader through the argument without confusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at using more sophisticated collocations, such as 'preferential treatments' and 'joint-sittings'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'one of the major importance' (should be 'one of the major benefits') and 'sparking attraction' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to discuss the topic, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. The repetition of 'expensive clothes' throughout the text also limits the lexical variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'advantages that comes' (should be 'come') and 'expensive clothes attracts' (should be 'attract'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage errors, such as 'in Public' (capitalisation) and 'in gathering' (should be 'in gatherings'). Despite these errors, the sentence structures are varied enough to maintain the flow of the argument, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication or cause confusion for the reader.
