Student answer (Band 7.0)

There has been a considerable debate about whether it is better to buy just a few expensive clothes or lots of cheaper ones. While expensive clothes offer long term reliability and comfort, buying cheap clothes will let you have more options and also the tension free maintainance. I beilive that it is best to have a balance of both expensive and cheap clothes.

There are several reasons why just a few expensive clothes are enough. This is because expensive clothes last long, provides the premium comfort and upscales your confidence. For example wearing an expensive roots hoodie not only lets you stay warm in the cold but also gives instant recognition from everyone. Also the same roots hoodie can stay perfectly fine for many winters. For these reasons, few expensive clothes can be practically enough.

However, having a lot of cheap clothes gives you more options and makes you look different each time. For instances, having a lot of cheap clothes provides you the opportunity to explore various styles and fittings at the same cost. Therefore few people believe that it is necessary to buy cheaper clothes in lots.

In conclusion, very limited expensive clothes and moderate amount of cheap clothes will balance your wardrobe perfectly. Expensive clothes will serve your most of the casual wears ensuring comfort on the regular basis is not compromised and cheaper clothes will cater the occasions like beach outings and night parties promising you unique looks during those short special moments. Ultimately, carefully choosen few expensive ones and broad varities of cheaper ones will do enough justice to your collection.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all parts of the task by presenting a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. You successfully balanced the two sides of the debate, ultimately proposing a nuanced view. The ideas are relevant, though some development could be more detailed. For instance, the example of the 'roots hoodie' is specific, but the explanation of why cheap clothes are better for 'beach outings' is slightly underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point is fully extended with a clear link back to the prompt's core question regarding the value of quality versus quantity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the central argument well throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'long term reliability', 'premium comfort', and 'upscales your confidence'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'tension free maintainance' (maintenance) and 'choosen' (chosen). Additionally, phrases like 'do enough justice' are slightly unnatural in this context. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure spelling is accurate. You have a good foundation, but more sophisticated, less common vocabulary would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'provides the premium comfort' (missing article), 'beilive' (spelling), 'cheaper clothes in lots' (in bulk), and 'serve your most of the casual wears' (serve most of your casual wear needs). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve your accuracy.
