Student answer (Band 7.0)

Rather than buying a number of cheaper clothes, It is better to shop some clothes that are costly. I strongly agree with statement. There are enormous number of benefits of buying expensive clothes. I will discuss them all in the upcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, The expensive clothes shows status. For Example, if a person is attending an important business meeting and he/she is wearing low cost goods, this will create a poor impression. As our first impression is our last impression. Furthermore, such practice will save our time and space. For instance, while getting ready for a function individuals will have very less choice of clothes to wear. Moreover, extra vacant space will be created in the closet, which can be used to store something else.

Additionally, high cost clothes are mostly made up of good stuff and fabric. Thus, they are long lasting. I would like to elaborate on this view with an example. I have a shirt of nike brand which costs around a hundred dollar. I am wearing this shirt since last 2 years and it is still the same. No broken buttons or wear and tear. On the other hand my thirty dollar shirt did not last a month. The fabric used was so poor that in a single wash the color faded.

All in all, I believe that if a individual is planning to shop clothes, it is effective to spend more money than buying a number of clothes, as quality matters over quantity. Wearing such clothes boosts the confidence and humans are more likely to achieve great things in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding status, convenience, and durability are relevant and supported by personal examples, such as the comparison between the Nike shirt and a cheaper alternative. However, some ideas are slightly underdeveloped; for instance, the link between expensive clothing and 'achieving great things' in the conclusion is a bit of a leap. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that every point is fully explained with more depth rather than moving quickly to the next idea. Overall, the task is well-addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'All in all' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the sentences within paragraphs flow more naturally into one another rather than feeling like a list of separate points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'long lasting', 'wear and tear', and 'impression'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'shop some clothes' (should be 'buy' or 'purchase') and 'good stuff' (too informal; 'high-quality materials' would be better). The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of academic collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'The expensive clothes shows' (subject-verb agreement), 'a individual' (article usage), and 'very less choice' (quantifier error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help you achieve greater accuracy.
