Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that is more advisable to purchase a small number of high-priced attire than to go for many less expensive clothes. I agree with this approach as I believe that there several reasons why such a measure would benefit the one who choose to buy the costly dresses.

I firmly believe that purchasing a very costly attire would be durable and also be a lasting wear. This would definitely create more space in the wardrobe for the expensive to be well kept and well folded than keeping many clothes. In addition, when people spend huge money on a particular cloth it is more value and always handle with caution and care. It enables individual to save more money than buying using all their savings to clothes every time.

Furthermore, another reason why it is important to opt for pricey dresses is that it always admires and fit every occasion. Whenever it is be wore, it draws people attention to compliment which also makes the wearer to more appealing and appreciated. Most time, one saves the stress of buying new clothes when occasion demands.

To conclude, in my opinion opting for expensive attires enhances people to acquire lasting wears which would help them save more. And also, it enables wearer to be admired and always suitable for all outings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of buying fewer, more expensive clothes. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments provided. While the main ideas—durability, wardrobe space, and social appeal—are relevant, they are not fully developed or supported with specific, concrete examples. The under-length nature of the response prevents a higher score, as the development of ideas is curtailed by the brevity of the text. To improve, you should expand on your points with personal anecdotes or more detailed reasoning to meet the word count requirement and provide a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas, and the use of cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To conclude' helps to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'the expensive' used as a noun). Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the overall structure could be improved by ensuring that each paragraph contains a more robust topic sentence and supporting details to enhance the flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'high-priced attire' instead of 'high-quality clothing' or 'expensive garments.' The phrase 'huge money' is informal and imprecise. Additionally, there are repetitive uses of basic vocabulary like 'clothes' and 'dresses.' To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and focus on more natural collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'it is more value and always handle with caution' (incorrect verb form/passive voice) and 'it enables individual to save' (missing article). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and word order, such as 'Whenever it is be wore' and 'enhances people to acquire.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of basic grammatical rules, particularly regarding passive voice and article usage.
