Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is commonly believed that buying few expensive clothes are much better than lots of cheaper clothes. I agree with this statement that high quality clothing provides longevity and clothes made with cheap material is harmful for skin and environment.
To begin with, clothes that are expensive often made by high quality materials which is not damage by washing or wearing them for years. For example, materials such as linen and 100% cotton is expensive and provides great durability. On the other hand, cheaper clothes made by polyester which traps heat, bacteria, and sweat in the body as well it is non-biodegradable, which affects the environment. Moreover, high quality clothing provides great fitting and comfort because it does not loose its shape over time. Also, stitching on expensive clothes are tight that do not break easily.
Moving further, cheap items save money now but might need replacement soon, however, expensive items cost more upfront but can save money over time. As a result, many clothing companies offer great prices on better quality products so that people can buy them instead of cheaper ones. For example, in India, zudio is new brand which has 100 locations all over India and it offers budget friendly clothes that are expensive than cheaper ones but still people can afford it. From past years, rayon fabric is also available and popular among people because it is not expensive but also does not have harmful effect on environment.
All things considered, expensive and high quality clothing items are always better than cheapest ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The main ideas—longevity, health, and environmental impact—are relevant and supported with examples. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the example regarding the brand 'Zudio' is slightly confusing as it contradicts the premise of buying 'expensive' clothes by highlighting a budget-friendly option. To reach a higher band, ensure that all examples directly reinforce the central argument. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and could have been used to better summarize the main points presented in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'On the other hand,' and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'longevity,' 'non-biodegradable,' and 'durability.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'expensive clothes are much better' (should be 'buying a few expensive items is better') and 'does not damage by washing' (should be 'is not damaged'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'clothes... is harmful,' 'stitching... are tight') and passive voice construction (e.g., 'often made by' instead of 'often made of'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that occasionally disrupt the flow. While the errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
