Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, people wish to spend a luxurious life's style. They believe becoming rich is the meaning of life. Many are trying to show richness by wearing expensive clothes, jewelries, buying cars and so on. Some people believe that, it is better to buy a few expensive clothes other than lots of the cheaper ones. I partially agree with this statement.
To begin with, clothes are not a mandatory thing in human life. Other than that, there are many things which humans can not live without. For instance, air, water, food are the primary requirements of a human. Everything else is secondary. Why they are wearing clothes? Just to protect themselves from the weather and to cover their shyness. We could use any kind of clothes for that. There is no need of branded or expensive ones. This clearly states that, expensive clothes are just waste of money and buying only a few clothes is enough for a human to live.
In addition, many people think that buying lots of cheaper clothes is a good man-kind. The major issue of buying lots of cheaper clothes is wear and tear. The low quality clothes will get damage quickly and become non-useable. These clothes are not possible to recycle. For example, many developed countries like America and Canada, has abandoned the selling of such low price, low quality clothes because these are really harmful for the environment.
In conclusion, it is better to buy less expensive good quality clothes. Buying lots of cheaper clothes will result in increase of non recycle products and buying a few expensive clothes are not necessary for human

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a partial position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph focuses heavily on the necessity of clothes in general rather than comparing expensive versus cheap options, which is the core of the prompt. The second paragraph provides a more relevant argument regarding the environmental impact of 'fast fashion'. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more deeply explored to fully justify the stance. The conclusion is slightly contradictory, as it suggests buying expensive clothes is not necessary, which undermines the initial partial agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the jump from discussing basic human needs to the specific topic of expensive clothing feels a bit abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences lack strong logical links to the previous ones, making the progression feel slightly disjointed at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'good man-kind' and 'non-useable', which hinder the natural flow. The student uses basic terms like 'expensive' and 'cheaper' repeatedly. While the meaning is always clear, there is little attempt to use more sophisticated or academic vocabulary to elevate the tone of the essay. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of lexical items is limited to common, everyday language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('many developed countries... has abandoned'), article usage ('a luxurious life's style'), and awkward phrasing ('there is no need of branded'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some unnecessary commas, such as in 'Some people believe that, it is better'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
